Nach ein paar \u00dcberlegungen mit meinem Mitbewohner, beschlossen wir an diesem verl\u00e4ngertem Wochenende zwei Ziele anzusteuern, die normalerweise weit aus der Reichweite mit dem Auto liegen: Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota und der Yellowstone Nationalpark in Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>Die Route war mit Google Maps schnell geplant- von Chicago nach Mt. Rushmore, von Mt. Rushmore von Chicago aus und in der Mitte von South Dakota konnten wir auch schon die Zeit eine Stunde zur\u00fcckdrehen, da wir die Mountain Time Zone bereits erreichten.<\/p>\n<p>Die Nacht verbrachten wir wie jede andere im Auto- 6 Stunden schlaf, um am n\u00e4chsten Morgen gegen halb 7 wieder auf der Interstate zu sein. Da wir South Dakota gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils im Dunkeln durchquerte, mussten wir am Morgen auch erstmal feststellen, dass wir schon in einer ganz anderen Region gelandet sind- weniger B\u00e4ume, weniger Gr\u00fcn- Willkommen im Mittleren Westen.<\/p>\n<p>Von unserem Nachtlager hat es noch ca. 1 Stunde gedauert, bis wir endlich beim Mt. Rushmore angekommen sind. Das ber\u00fchmte Monument mit den 4\u00a0Portraits\u00a0von George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt und Abraham Lincoln hat uns dann schon f\u00fcr einen kleinen Augenblick sprachlos gemacht- wahrscheinlich auch, weil wir erst dort realisiert haben, wie weit wir eigentlich schon gekommen sind.<\/p>\n<p>Nach 30 Minuten Fotos machen und kurzer Ausflug in den Souvenir-Shop ging dann
